About RTSRE

A conference to provide a global picture of the role scientific research, technical engineering and astronomy education play in student research and education.

The RTSRE conference series focuses on building a sustainable community around the educational, technical and student research uses of robotic telescopes, from small through to large aperture and from radio through to gamma-ray and involving both observed and archival data. It aims to be a meeting place for astronomers, teachers, educators, outreach practitioners, researchers, and observatory and telescope network developers and managers, in a continuing effort to share and combine resources, develop and enhance education and research programs, and foster global conversations and collaborations. It facilitates the storage of knowledge in the field through its journal, RTSRE Proceedings and an astronomical journal, Astronomy, Theory, Observations and Methods.

About RTSRE 2025

An island of telescopes and lights

It has been a while since our last meeting just at the end of the pandemic in Santa Barbara in mid-2022.

2024 was already fairly action packed on the robotic telescope education front with an unprecedented education Focus Meeting 10 at the IAU GA in South Africa in August and an earlier meeting surrounding astro101 topics in June. Both conferences will have very interesting proceedings stemming from them!

In 2025, we would like to welcome you to the island of Tasmania off the South-Eastern coast of Australia. The location will be in the centre of the island’s capital and second oldest city in Australia, Hobart, overlooked by kunanyi (Mt. Wellington) on the banks of the River Derwent. Renowned for its fresh air, pristine wilderness areas and culinary delights, Tasmania is also one of the key birthplaces of radio astronomy. In the current era, the University of Tasmania is also bringing robotic radio telescopes online to support education uses through the Skynet telescope network – opening up a new wavelength domain in Robotic Telescopes, Student Research and Education.

We will kick off the event with our traditional welcome social evening on Sunday the 28th of September and the full conference will run from Monday the 29th to Wednesday the 1st of October, also with social events organised in the evenings. We look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions about the event, please feel free to contact us for more information and to sign up for the mailing list.
