The first Key Presentation at the conference to be a tag team between Dan Reichart (Skynet/UNC) and Patrick Yates-Jones (University of Tasmania). 

Patrick will introduce us to Tasmania (in general!) as well as the significant Tasmanian contributions to the history of radio astronomy starting around the 1950s particularly when Grote Reber moved to the Southern Hemisphere in search of thin ionospheres and radio silence. This strong connection and development to radio astronomy continues to this day with the Mt Pleasant radio observatory near Hobart and many components of the VBLI network . 

Dan will talk about the possibilities of using the 12-30m range radio dishes coming online through Skynet and the variety of curriculum approaches having been trialed over the last few years in the new “Multi-wavelength universe” curriculum – primarily focussing on the radio. Students have collaboratively mapped the radio sky, explored colour and emission at radio wavelengths, pulsars, doppler imaging of galaxies and much more!
