Daryl Janzen – Setting up and using a robotic telescope for university education
16:30 - 16:45
Following the RTSRE conference in 2018, I worked with Skynet Robotic Telescope Network director Dan Reichart and his team to set up a robotic telescope at the University of Saskatchewan. It took the better part of two years to get all the pieces in place, and we finally set up the telescope in April 2020, right at the start of the pandemic. That fall, I ran a photometry class and an honours project that made exclusive use of the robotic telescope because of lockdown, so I spent the summer (and a lot of the fall) troubleshooting problems with the telescope and enclosure, and rethinking observing projects that would make effective use of this new tool.
