Connecting the Public to the Night Sky Workshop

On the 7th of December 2019, Mt Burnett Observatory, an astronomy association in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne, will host a one-day workshop at Emerald Secondary College. The day will be a series of practical workshops, keynotes, talks and group discussions aiming to share knowledge, experiences and methods to connect informal/public and out-of-school communities

RTSRE Welcome Reception

The welcome reception for the RTSRE Conference will run from 17:00 – 23:00 at Beer DeLuxe.

RTSRE Main Event

The RTSRE conference series focuses on building a sustainable community around the educational, technical and student research uses of robotic telescopes, from small through to large aperture and from radio through to gamma-ray and involving both observed and archival data. It aims to be a meeting place for astronomers, teachers, educators, outreach practitioners, researchers, and observatory and telescope network developers and managers, in a continuing effort to share and combine resources, develop and enhance education and research programs, and foster global conversations and collaborations. It facilitates the storage of knowledge in the field through it’s yearly dual-peer-reviewed proceedings journal, RTSRE Proceedings and an astronomical journal, Astronomy, Theory, Observations and Methods.

Education and Student Research With Telescopes Teacher Workshop

Eltham College, Eltham

Our initial “How to” introductory and intermediate workshops we trialled in Hawaii during the main RTSRE conference were great, but were too short to cover enough material, so we are going to include running an entire single-day practical workshop on the topic. Various robotic telescope institutions and education projects will provide a variety of tutorials and workshops on getting started in the field.

A full day active workshops, tutorials and talks on using Robotic Telescopes for Student Research and Education. Come along and actually request your own images, make your own lightcurves, figure out how you are going to use all this stuff (or show others how to!) in your classroom.This event is open for middle to high school teachers (Years 4-13) and those that run programs involving such teachers and/or their students.
